Puerto Del Carmen is the main tourist resort on the island of Lanzarote. It is part of the municipality of Tías. And most of Lanzarote’s over 1 million visitors a year choose this town as their destination. As a result, almost all of the town’s economy revolves around tourism.
It attracts tourists from all over Europe, particularly Ireland, the UK , Germany and from Scandinavia and Spain. The Avenida de las Playas, the main street, extends around 7 km along the island’s southern coast, with beaches on one side and many restaurants, bars, shops and other tourist attractions on the other. Apartments, villas and hotels cover a kilometer or so inland from the coastline.
Like many places in Lanzarote. Puerto Del Carmen was originally a small fishing village, and the old harbor is still a great place to visit, with some excellent seafood restaurants and bars with views across the harbor and the sea to the volcanic mountains of Papagayo beyond to views of the next island of Fuerteventura.
Puerto Del Carmen hosts a variety of shops which sell mainly tourist-oriented products. The Biosfera Plaza is a newly constructed shopping plaza, which includes many international brands and has entertainment facilities. If its night life you want aside from all the bars and restaurants, there are many clubs open until around 6am.

And if sports are what you need there are plenty of fun runs and triathlons plus its the main setting for the annual Lanzarote Iron Man. And plenty of Dive schools around the resort, and a 5 min drive to Puerto Carlero’s marina for sailing and boating, plus shops and bars, restaurants.
